-During my great meeting with the owner of Sunshine CoOperative, we agreed for me to plan a Christmas event for a local park, Backhouse Park. The owner of Sunshine CoOperative is also a chair of the park and it was really great that through this one lovely contact a lot of my plans could be discussed and developed.
-The plan was for me to develop a Christmas print run, the idea was developed from inspiration from this book, as discussed here
-The print run will involve families and children using a map to find Christmas themed stamps around the park to fill a pre printed worksheet/poster.
-I firstly designed a flyer to promote the event through social media and other channels..
This was placed around the park before the event
-Gaps on the worksheet were first planned to be lino cuts of Santa/elves/Christmas tree etc, but I then changed this so that it was an easier design. The new design was that of a Christmas Tree, and within the design there were blank circles, which were to be filled with patterned bauble stampers that were located at points around the park.
-The design was A3 and also has space on the right about how to use the worksheet and safety tips to keep safe whilst following the trail. The print was A3 so that if it rained that users could cover their print with the right hand side of the paper to try and protect it.
-The sheets were printed on the Riso machine in 2 colours, unfortunately the green ink was low so wasn't printing correctly so I used light blue instead after trying a darker blue which was far too dark.
--The worksheet paper was 170gsm so it was thicker and could be carried around the park.
-The bauble stamps were mounted on small wooden blocks and had faces drawn onto them to show which way up to use them, especially for children participating that could not yet read.
-Each printing station had a clipboard, a stamp and an ink pad attached to ropes and ribbons.
-My daughter kindly helped to colour in one of the colouring in sheets I designed for a further activity once individuals have finished the trail or to take away. These had the WE logo on to give adults a contact for social media following.
-I also got my daughter to test out the stamps to see if they were useable for younger participants.
-I also made a map which could then be used to follow the trail and find out more about the park.
- There were crackers to show the position of the printing stations on the final design.
-The trail was smaller than first planned as there was a tree blocking part of the path to the left of the park that had fallen during storm Arwen. This worked out quite well in the end as it made the trail smaller and more compact to check especially on this first attempt.
