#oneofmanypostcard

Updated: Jan 24, 2021

John Peddler is an artist and printmaker from Sheffield, who works primarily with woodcut.

He started the hashtag and project #oneofmanypostcard a project in which primarily printmakers, but all artists and designers offer postcard size prints for free. When the recipients receive the postcard, they donate to a local charity the amount they would usually pay for the work they have received, in Johns words...

‘Trump Card’ (no pun intended.

Ok pun a little intended!)

‘I/ Many’ rejoins the fray on 20th January, and whilst huge, potentially good things and huge, definitely bad things battle it out, we come together to help smaller overlooked organisations who suffer from underfunding at times like this.

So, to sum up, the way 1/many works is that we offer up our handmade art and artifacts on our feeds for free and if anybody wants one they simply DM the maker with their name and address. When the recipient receives the print or whatever else has been made, they get to decide how much they would have paid for it and donate that amount or something that they can afford to a good cause of their choosing.

This time around I’m having to limit the number to 50 (names in a hat job) because last time it got a bit overwhelming. But hopefully that’s ok because although I started this by myself a few years ago, there are now hundreds, and hundreds taking part, so if mine are not to your taste or you miss out, there are loads of other makers offering up their work if you visit #oneofmanypostcard. Just click ‘most recent’ to find the latest offerings!

Well? You in? 🙂

Last year I luckily received a few postcards and donated to charity, but this year, I thought I would also offer some prints, as the project had such a lovely reflection on the research and themes of what I want to achieve through the MA

These were the prints I produced for the project, 6 wooden type letterpress prints, printed on vintage boomerang instruction pages. All the prints were posted out on the 20th Jan and it was so lovely to scroll through the hashtag and see the community of people supporting the project and supporting local charities.

I had 14 people contact to ask for a print and gained a few new followers in the process too. It was lovely to talk to people about the work

These were the prints I received, it was really lovely to connect with the artists and printmakers that made these prints and find new creatives to follow

Going forward I want to think of small projects I can do over short periods to gain interest and start conversation.
