Protest Pack - Adding Images

Updated: Jan 24, 2021

I recently attended the talk of the opening of reverting to Type 2020 an exhibition of contemporary letterpress protest posters. Whilst there were many posters to talk about and inspire I want to focus on this poster below to try out some ideas for the protest pack and developments of how it could be used and customised

The use of bold type and a simple image was very striking to me in this image and I wish to make a small sample (A5) with type and an image combined. Other posters blended in with the use of strong type, which was striking; but for me the image used on the print above made it stand out.

Ive created a lino cut of the Walter and Edith WE as a starting point and then want to look at an image with more natural form too.

Ive used easy cut lino and a stamp pad to print this to try and recreate the same texture as the Will Mower blocks with Logan Deli paper.

I carved the back of the block first as it has a very rough surface to create those textured marks, but it was too rough to use with the stamp pad, it may work better with printmaking inks.

I then carved the correct side, and was able to get some lovely textures from this. Again, using printmaking inks will give a very crisp finish to the print without texture.
