Craftivism
Craftivism is a way of looking at life where voicing opinions through creativity makes your voice stronger, your compassion deeper & your quest for justice more infinite.
The projects to be explored sit somewhere in the middle of these two terms,
hence the phrase
Proaction
NOUN
action that initiates change as opposed to reaction to events
-Proaction in this way then looks at other ways of using your voice to raise an issue.
-I feel that craftivism can sometimes be reflected in ideas of the person being creative or crafty, sometimes it it mostly associated with women too.
-I don't want individuals to feel like they either cannot use their voice as they don't see themselves as creative or that they don't feel they want to protest on the streets.
-I think proaction will sit in a way which it develops easy conversations and voices that at first don't seem like activism or protest, thats its more subtle in developing the strong voices.
-The projects very gently change the community space but it is not seen in that way by the maker at first.
-They are not overwhelmed by the words activism or craft and that the act of developing their voice comes easily. -Below are Illustrator font and colour experiments looking at the transition between protest, in bolder colour to start and then proaction becoming stronger after the two phrases mix in the middle.
-This hopes to show that the two are not mutually exclusive and have links. Using san serif fonts to give a modern look to the piece. The intention is to screen print this design which will give the overlays of colour more depth and interest.
-Pro registers with both prints showing that with both forms there are positive outcomes, proaction is simply the route I wish to develop
