I made my Community Is postcards on the Riso machine and was looking at different cafes and independent venues that could give out the postcards.
I visited Sunshine CoOperative a new zero waste shop in Sunderland city centre..
It has opened next door to Pop Recs, a community interest company and the two shops are part of the Sunderland High Streets Heritage Action Zone.
When I visited the store I spoke to one of the owners and arranged a meeting to go further over the postcard idea and discuss ideas around delivering a workshop as they said they had a workshop space that could be used at the back of the store.
The meeting went really well, I met Claire who was one of the owners of the store. We talked about the leaflets and developing these for the shop also. We talked about developing a workshop suitable for both my MA work and for the shop. I then also mentioned to Claire about my idea to develop an event for a local park, Backhouse Park and Claire then mentioned she was chair of the park which was really helpful!! This developed into planning dates for events at the park, planning a Christmas event as a dry run which was a few weeks away from the meeting.
Below is a list of things that were discussed as future dates from the workshop..
Backhouse Park - Christmas Event.
-12 December
Family event in which children can print their own patterned baubles to add to a Christmas Tree image by finding patterned stamps around a trail around the park. I will also use this as a dry run for the print event I want to do in April (see below)
Ideas for both of these events were developed from my research into David Lemm in a previous post https://walterandedith.wixsite.com/madesign/post/rubber-stamping-stephen-fowler-inspirations-and-developments
WeType Workshop
-February
This was discussed to hold a workshop in the space in the back of the store. The idea would be to use the WeType shape stampers to ask individuals what they thought of both the 'Community Is...' and "Sunshine CoOperative Is..'
There were discussions around also the printing a set of digitally developed posters from the answers about the store, to display on its walls.
Backhouse Park - 2nd Print Trail Event
-April
The idea for this event would be to explore the area and find parts of the park/a space which you may not know about.
This event could then easily be edited for other spaces and there hopefully will be a set format to use in different community settings for individuals to explore their local areas more.
Flyers
ongoing development of flyers for..
Sunshine Co-Operative
Backhouse Park
Like the Community is flyers, there is a plan to print the same design for both Sunshine CoOperative and Backhouse Park to gain ideas and comments from users of the two and the public to how they see and use these. The flyers for Sunshine CoOperative will be used to help further funding bids and to develop their store and client base.
