Tate Modern, Yayoi Kusama's Obliteration Room, Notes on Authorship

Yayoi Kusama's Obliteration Room brought up some interesting points on authorship when I visited in the summer.

On entering the space you were given a sticker sheet (above) and were then told you could stick them anywhere,, but not to leave with any stickers,, not to stick the sticker sheet backing on the floor and you must give your used sticker sheet in at the end of the installation.

There were instances of people tearing the stickers and lots of the sticker sheet backing sheets in the last room (below top left), it made me wonder if this had been changed during the duration of the installation and this rule had been added as the stickers were not being used in the way the artist intended?

It did seem a shame to have so many rules as you went into a space and I did wonder if some of these issues (sticker backings taken off beforehand) could have been mitigated.

This reflects a lot in the print trail I produced for the park. At present individuals have been printing the stamps onto the clipboards meant to be used for leaning on whilst printing. I want to work out how to get rid of this issue, but I do not want to, as here make many rules for the print trail as I does feel like this did take away some of the authorship and freedom of expression in the obliteration room.
