When developing the WeView viewfinder, I added a logo to the bottom, incorporating the already well used WE of Walter and Edith with the word View. To create this I made fonts for the View letters using the same simple format of shapes to the WE..
I then wanted to see if I could develop the full alphabet to use for other 'logos' for projects within the main hub,
Referring back to Will Mowers Alpha-Set I looked at developing this using only a very small amount of shapes.
I first worked these up in sketchbook to develop the simple forms and how each letter could work and then I have designed these in Illustrator.
I also found some images, posted by Kellie Anderson about designers who had made simple modular fonts including Josef Albers which were really inspiring..
-I used 2 lines to try and keep the letters all to the same type height.
-I didn't worry about the width of the letters, this process was more about staying true to using as few shapes as possible than conforming to widths.
-The middle line shows the shapes I used to create all of the type
-The only issue going forward is that I did have to adjust the scale of the shapes for certain letters so I will need to reassess this if I want to make a set similar to Will Mowers.
-The bottom line shows the original WE logo
Alphabet with fill...
And with a line stroke...
Logo at the bottom and shapes used included in design.
This is something I want to develop into a type I can use and I may have another shot at it to see if I can make these with set shape sizes too.
