Talk notes from Adobe talk with
Humans of New York, Brandon Stanton
and Vlogger Casey Neistat.
Both talked about how their work tried to make changes and democratising creativity on which I hope my work will do. To show the tools for people to use and become empowered,
How to use your megaphone
Learning as an artist and making mistakes in front of everyone. An injustice has happened, you never want to be the arbitrator when the jury is millions of people.
What are my responsibilities to the people I’m interviewing?
Scrolling and scrolling then find a story about someone being very honest and vulnerable about their story. That’s a lot deeper than the news feed is designed to be, that’s where your community comes from and your power to do good comes from.
Casey..
Virtues of democratising the world of creativity and less compelling aspects because of the need for clicks.
Brandon..
Art isn’t about the audience really, bring something new to the world, that should be your north star to bring something new to the world. That should keep you pushing on.
Casey..
To pursue the influence is to cut out the creativity.
Excites me to see how truly democratised the tools needed for creativity are. HD camera, internet access etc. Used to be so exclusive. Need to really communicate in way we haven’t before
Brandon..
Maybe it will be a shift from let me tell a story to, let us tell a story together.
If you can understand other people’s stories you have so much more empathy and understanding.
