Poster House Talks

Updated: Nov 16, 2021

I watched a few talks through Poster House, which I thought may be helpful to my projects and research

-Jewish Identity & Advertising: Posters in The Third Reich

This talk featured an interesting section from Suzanne Glass, in which she talked about her great grandfather Hans Sachs collection of posters which were stolen by the Nazis during the war and the tried retrieval afterwards of these posters.

The section of the talk that reflected my work was from Kristina Parsons who is a curatorial assistant at the Jewish museum in New York. She spoke about certain designers and artists who had developed and changed their work during and after the war.

This piece was spoken about and how Walter Herz had used and reclaimed the below sculpture image from the Nazis after the war. In relation to my project I thought about how reclaiming certain imagery or objects etc can be developed and used to reclaim an individuals personal space and community.

-Posters, Politics, and Satire: A Conversation

The below images from Winston Tseng were placed around New York and were designed to blend in spaces but mostly show disparities and issues in society. Some of the poster were vandalised and developed further conversations which I felt reflected my project.

Maia Lorian like Winston, used satire and developed a series of adverts placed in phone box ad slots around New York to again highlight disparities and issues in society and politics in America.
